"Me!" (stylized as "ME!") feat. Brendon Urie is the lead single and sixteenth track from American singer and songwriter Taylor Swift's seventh studio album, Lover, released on April 26, 2019, through Republic Records.[1] A demo of the song titled Ruff Jan 14 leaked on August 25, 2023.
Background[]
The song is meant to be a celebration of everything that makes a person unique. Swift wrote it with the intention of it being about embracing individuality and it being a song that made people feel better about themselves. [2]
It was the first song that Swift owned after her split with Big Machine Records and the first song she released under her new record label, Republic Records.
Footage of the development and recording of the song is featured in Swift's 2020 documentary, Miss Americana.
Promotion[]
Various news outlets reported on April 25 that a mural of a butterfly in The Gulch neighborhood of Nashville, Tennessee, painted by street artist Kelsey Montague,[1] was connected with Swift's upcoming music, to be released on April 26, 2019, which a countdown for appeared on her social media.[3] A crowd of several hundred gathered at the mural as the word "Me!" was added to it by Montague.[3][4] Montague told WKRN "the mural was painted for ABC, ESPN and the 2019 NFL Draft",[4] but Swift later posted on her Instagram story that she commissioned the mural and put clues about "the song" and new music in it. She later appeared and took pictures with fans at the mural, telling them to watch ABC (and its coverage of the NFL Draft) that night for more clues.[1] Swift later confirmed that an interview with Robin Roberts would be broadcast on ABC live from Nashville on April 25.[5] During the interview, she confirmed the title as well as the feature from Urie and said the song and its music video would be released at midnight.[6]

Lyrics[]
[Intro: Taylor Swift]
I promise that you'll never find another like me
[Verse 1: Taylor Swift]
I know that I'm a handful, baby, uh
I know I never think before I jump
And you're the kind of guy the ladies want
(And there's a lot of cool chicks out there)
I know that I went psycho on the phone
I never leave well enough alone
And trouble's gonna follow where I go
(And there's a lot of cool chicks out there)
[Pre-Chorus: Taylor Swift]
But one of these things is not like the others
Like a rainbow with all of the colors
Baby doll, when it comes to a lover
I promise that you'll never find another like
[Chorus: Taylor Swift]
Me-e-e, ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
I'm the only one of me
Baby, that's the fun of me
Eeh-eeh-eeh, ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
You're the only one of you
Baby, that's the fun of you
And I promise that nobody's gonna love you like me-e-e
[Verse 2: Brendon Urie & Taylor Swift]
I know I tend to make it about me
I know you never get just what you see
But I will never bore you, baby
(And there's a lot of lame guys out there)
And when we had that fight out in the rain
You ran after me and called my name
I never wanna see you walk away
(And there's a lot of lame guys out there)
[Pre-Chorus: Taylor Swift & Brendon Urie, Brendon Urie]
'Cause one of these things is not like the others
Livin' in winter, I am your summer
Baby doll, when it comes to a lover
I promise that you'll never find another like
[Chorus: Brendon Urie, Taylor Swift & Brendon Urie]
Me-e-e, ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
I'm the only one of me
Let me keep you company
Eeh-eeh-eeh, ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
You're the only one of you
Baby, that's the fun of you
And I promise that nobody's gonna love you like me-e-e
[Bridge: Brendon Urie, Taylor Swift & Both]
Hey, kids! Spelling is fun!
Girl, there ain't no I in "team"
But you know there is a "me"
Strike the band up, 1, 2, 3
I promise that you'll never find another like me
Girl, there ain't no I in "team"
But you know there is a "me"
And you can't spell "awesome" without "me"
I promise that you'll never find another like
[Chorus: Both, Taylor Swift & Brendon Urie]
Me-e-e (Yeah), ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh (And I want ya, baby)
I'm the only one of me (I'm the only one of me)
Baby, that's the fun of me (Baby, that's the fun of me)
Eeh-eeh-eeh, ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh (Oh)
You're the only one of you (Oh)
Baby, that's the fun of you
And I promise that nobody's gonna love you like me-e-e
[Outro: Brendon Urie, Taylor Swift & Both]
Girl, there ain't no I in "team" (Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh)
But you know there is a "me"
I'm the only one of me (Oh-oh)
Baby, that's the fun of me
(Eeh-eeh-eeh, ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh)
Strike the band up, 1, 2, 3
You can't spell "awesome" without "me"
You're the only one of you
Baby, that's the fun of you
And I promise that nobody's gonna love you like me-e-e

Live performances[]
"Me!" was performed multiple times in 2019 to promote Swift's album Lover, including at the Billboard Music Awards and her City of Lover concert in Paris. It was also performed as a surprise song at The Eras Tour on November 20, 2023, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Trivia[]
- The song is Swift's first lead single to include a featured artist, with the second being "Fortnight".
- On the album version of the song, the lyric "Hey kids! Spelling is fun!" was removed.
- Many fans are speculate that Swift removed it because of hate from the public about the lyric.
- Some fans also speculate that the lyric is an Easter egg for the release date of Lover. ("Spelling" has 8 letters, "is" has 2, and "fun" has 3, 8/23 (August 23) is the release date of Swift's seventh studio album Lover.)[19]
- Taylor adopted her third cat, Benjamin, on the set of the music video.
