Swift announced that the sixth track on Midnights would be titled "Midnight Rain" on September 28, 2022, as episode four out of thirteen on Midnights Mayhem With Me.[1] This song leaked in full on October 19, along with the other songs on the album.[2]
"Midnight Rain" utilizes heavy vocal distortion and describes the breakdown of a relationship in which the two people wanted different things.
