Reputation (Taylor's Version) is the upcoming re-recording of Taylor Swift’s sixth studio album, reputation. It is predicted to be released in 2024 or 2025 as the album became eligible to re-record on November 10, 2022, which marked the fifth anniversary of the album.

Background[]

As per her contract with Big Machine Records, Swift released six studio albums under the label from 2006 to 2017. In late 2018, the contract with the label expired; she hence withdrew from Big Machine and signed a new recording deal with Republic Records, a division of Universal Music Group, which secured her the rights to own the masters of the new music she will release. In 2019, American businessman Scooter Braun and his company Ithaca Holdings acquired Big Machine. As part of the acquisition, ownership of the masters to Swift's first six studio albums, including Reputation (which was the last album before moving to Republic Records), transferred to Braun. In August 2019, Swift denounced Braun's purchase of the label and announced that she would re-record her first six studio albums, to own their masters herself. In November 2020, Braun sold the masters to Shamrock Holdings, an American private equity firm owned by the Disney estate, under the conditions that Braun and Ithaca Holdings will continue to financially profit from the albums. Swift began re-recording the albums in November 2020, though she could not re-record Reputation until November 2022, five years after the original album was released.

A snippet of the re-recorded track "Delicate (Taylor's Version)" was included on the second season of The Summer I Turned Pretty, indicating that the album is in development (or possibly nearly getting finished).

Shortly after, Ed Sheeran stated in an interview that he has not re-recorded End Game yet, which means that at that point, the album was not finished. A few days after those statements, Swift and Ed Sheeran were seen, separately, leaving the same place.

On August 23, 2023, a snippet of "Look What You Made Me Do (Taylor's Version)" was used on the trailer for the show Wilderness, which premiered on September 15, 2023. It was then used in the first and second episode of the show. The only part of the song we do not have yet is the second half of the second verse.

In Swift's post about The Eras Tour movie premiere she said, "Look what you genuinely made me do" and "Getting in the car now…", possibly referencing the songs "Look What You Made Me Do" and "Getaway Car" on reputation.

In the credits of The Eras Tour movie, the song titles for the Reputation set are listed in all lowercase, similar to the track titles on folklore and evermore (e.g. "don't blame me", "look what you made me do"). This could mean that the track titles on Reputation (Taylor's Version) will also be stylized in all lowercase. Additionally, on the website allthestarsaligned.com, which was created to show Taylor's most searched songs, lyrics, and moments in celebration of her being the top searched songwriter of 2023, in the section for the most searched tracks on Reputation, the song titles were stylized in all lowercase.

During the intro for the Reputation set in The Eras Tour movie, when the title of the album flashes onto the screen, the R is capitalized, differing from the original version, which was stylized all in lowercase. This could be a clue that the title for Reputation (Taylor's Version) will be capitalized.

On December 6, 2023, a part of the December 25, 2023 issue of the TIME magazine was released, featuring Swift on the front cover. In the magazine, Taylor states the Reputation (Taylor's Version) vault tracks are "fire".[1] Additionally, in the caption to one of her posts about the magazine, she said she usually has "tRuSt iSSueS" when it comes to interviews. Fans theorized that the capitalized "R" stood for Reputation and the "S" referred to a snake's hiss.[2]
