However, the contest was marred by manipulation of the voting system, leading to the removal of the school from the competition.
Despite the controversy surrounding the campaign, Swift, along with sponsors of the contest including Chegg, Papa John’s, CoverGirl, and American Greetings, decided to make a significant contribution to the school. Swift and the sponsors pledged $10,000 each to Horace Mann, with VH1’s Save the Music program also donating $10,000 worth of musical instruments to support the school's music education program. Additionally, Horace Mann students were given tickets to Swift’s upcoming local concert.
The donation and support were widely praised, and the school’s principal, Jeremiah Ford, expressed that the institution felt like a "winner" despite not receiving the concert performance. Swift’s gesture was seen as an example of her generosity and commitment to supporting communities in need, demonstrating her dedication to using her platform for positive impact.
