Section One: Pre Debut
By the age of eleven Swift started looking for a record label, she has recorded tons of demo CDs in luck trying to find a label. Taylor Swift first started her career when she wrote her first song titled “Lucky You” at the age of 12. At age 14 in 2003/2004 she moved to Nashville Tennessee where she would preform at cafes, festivals, bars… etc. When Taylor decided to preform live at Bluebird Cafe she got discovered by music producer Scott Borchetta, a man looking to create a record label, Taylor signed to him and started work on her debut studio album titled “Taylor Swift”. She wrote three of the songs alone, The Outside, Should’ve Said No and, Our Song. The rest of the songs were co-written by Liz Rose.
She released her debut country single called “Tim McGraw” as a freshmen in high school. For a debut single it hit 40 on the Billboard Hot 100 and 6 on the Billboard Country Chart. Her label didn’t want to release it since it was a slow and sad song, yet I did commercially well for a debut single. It is about realizing how the love wont last much longer and how he will remember her. Tim McGraw is titled by the country singer Tim McGraw. The song is featured on the set list on the Fearless Tour, and the Red Tour, and was preformed as surprise songs on The Reputation Stadium Tour and The Eras Tour. It was received well critically being called “A Gem That Hit Hard” and “The 11th best debut single of all time”.
She released the second single, Teardrops On My Gutair in February of 2007, a few months after the album released. It peaked 13 on the Billboard Hot 100 and 2 on the Billboard Country Songs. It received more than Tim McGraw being a commercial success and critical success.
Our Song is the third single which was written by herself for a school talent show. It was a commercial success peaking 16 on the Billboard Hot 100 and 1 on the Billboard Country Chart. It was also received as one of the best country songs of the year.
The album also has Picture To Burn as the fourth single and Should've Said No as the fifth and final single, we will discuss these later.
Section Two: Release
On October 24, 2006 Taylor Swift released her debut album called “Taylor Swift”. It was released to commercial success, it debuted at number 19 on the Billboard 200 Chart, it sold 40,000 copies in the first week. It peaked at number 5 on the Billboard 200.
After its release she wasn't big enough to do a full worldwide tour, so she did a 6 month long radio tour in promotion (if you don't know what a radio tour is, it is when someone goes and preforms on a lot of radio stations). She also opened on a lot of tours like Tim McGraw and Faith Hill.
Critically Taylor Swift has generally good reviews for its strong voice, and relatable lyrics for teenagers. It was called “A honest album for teenagers.
Section Three: EPS Released After The Album
The Taylor Swift Holiday Collection is the first EP by Taylor Swift with song covers and 2 original songs. It was originally realized as a Target exclusive but ended up doing really well so it was everywhere. It was released October 2007. It has covers of Santa Baby, Last Christmas, White Christmas and, Silent Night, and two original songs, Christmasses When You Were Mine, and Christmas Must Be Something More.
Beautiful Eyes is the second EP by Taylor Swift to hold fans over until the release of her sophomore album Fearless. Like the Holiday Collection it was a Walmart exclusive but later sold well. It was released July 15 2008. It has I Heart? and Beautiful Eyes, also has some new remixes of songs from debut. It also has a DVD which features behind the scenes and music videos.
